Chaos Erupts at Mogadishu Central Prison: Gunfire and Explosions Rock Facility

MOGADISHU, Somalia — An attack involving gunfire and explosions began at the Central Prison in Mogadishu on Saturday morning, according to witnesses and officials.

The attack started in the Centrale Section of the prison, which is adjacent to the Prison Warden's Office after inmates somehow managed to acquire guns and hand grenades.

The shootout then spread to the other main section of the prison known as Biya Muundo.

As of now, at least 5 killed, and it remains unclear how the inmates were able to obtain weapons while inside the prison. The situation is still developing, and authorities are working to regain control of the facility and ensure the safety of both inmates and prison staff.

Such attacks have hit the Central Prison in Mogadishu in the past. This latest incident raises further questions about the security and management of the facility.
