MOGADISHU, Somalia- At least two Somali Policemen were killed and seven others wounded following a bomb explosion at checkpoint near textile market in Mogadishu on Sunday morning, Garowe Online reports.

A witness has confirmed the attack to GO, saying it happened after an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) detonated at a security checkpoint in Hamarweyne district.

The area was cordoned off by security forces and nabbed several suspects in connection to the bombing, according to the witness who spoke on condition of anonymity.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, but police officials said they believe Al Shabaab was responsible the deadly bombing in Mogadishu.

Somali Federal government, which its mandate has expired last September, is accused of failing to secure the Somali capital of Mogadishu, as the city is gearing up to host a presidential election scheduled later this month.

Al Qaida linked Al Shabaab group has intensified its attacks in the recent months in Mogadishu, targeting government officials, security forces and allied African Union Peacekeeping troops in Somalia (AMISOM).
