JOWHAR_ State formation convention in Middle Shabelle regional capital of Jowhar is on hold for dispute brewing between traditional leaders and Mogadishu-based federal government, Garowe Online reports.

Clan elders are complaining of political disorder unlike preceding conventions that brought latest interim administrations to existence.

Elder Musse Sheikh Osman Sharire denied in interview with Puntland-based independent station, Radio Garowe that efforts to end the challenges impeding the conventions have got underway.

He accused Interior Minister Abdirahman Odawa of hijacking convention agendas, and pressuring them into a blueprint devoid of inclusive consensus among Hiran and Middle Shabelle traditional leaders.

The dispute has stemmed from the selection of delegates for the state formation convention according to Sharire.

Amid looming differences over model for electoral transition by 2016, Somalia’s Federal Government is backing a swift endeavor that could see another state formed before agreed upon option.

It’s yet unclear whether the conference will be proceeding as planned, with the federal government trying to appease complaining elders.
