​Somalia: Federal Minister of Constitutional Affairs to stand before the Parliament

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Federal Minister of Constitutional Affairs, Abdirahman Jibirl Hosh, is expected to stand before the Federal Parliament on Sunday after being summoned by lawmakers, Garowe Online reports.

Last week, lawmakers from the Lower House chamber of Federal Parliament brought a motion against Minister Hosh, after posting a statement in his Twitter account, opposing Federal Parliament overruling the Supreme Court verdict.

This came after the Somali Supreme Court nullified 8 seats from members of the Lower House chamber over election misconduct, but the Lower House has voted overwhelmingly to override the Supreme Court verdict.

“Somali Parliament is out to lunch. Parliament can not over turn the verdict of the highest court of the land. Smh,” said Hosh in a Twitter post.

Federal MP, Abdi Fatah Ismail Dahir, said the Minister of Constitutional Affairs will have to explain to the House, the reasons to oppose the decision of the Somali Federal Parliament.

Last May, Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the ruling made by Somalia’s Independent electoral dispute body to nullify 8 Lower House seats over election misconduct and rigged process.

During today session, the Federal lawmakers are expected to debate about procedure to nullify Federal Parliament seats and the re-election process to fill the vacant seats.
