​Somalia: Galmudug President calls for probe in Governor's killing

ADADO, Somalia- The President of Somalia's central semi-autonomous region of Galmudug, Ahmed Dualle Geelle "Haaf" has called for an investigation into the killing of of Galgadud governor in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports. 

President Haaf said in a statement, Galmudug wants the Federal government of Somalia to arrest the assailants that killed Mohamed Dahir Ali Elmi, the governor of Galgaduud region, and bring them to justice.

Haaf has condemned the assassination of the Governor in the strong terms possible and sent a condolence to the family and friends of late Elmi, according to the statement released from his office.

Elmi and his brother identified as Hassan Dahir Ali, were killed in a drive-by shooting in Mogadishu's Yaqshiid district on Friday evening, while on their way to visit their father at Arafat neighborhood.

The officials of the Somali Federal government are yet to comment about the Governor's death, which was the latest in string of targeted assassinations in the capital by the al-Shabaab group in the past few weeks.

Witnesses confirmed to GO that the Governor and his brother who was an Engineer had been killed when al-Shabaab gunmen in a speeding minibus blocked their route and sprayed the car with bullets.

The assailants ran away with the vehicle shortly before the security forces arrived the scene.

In separate incidents, unknown gunmen killed a prominent elder in Mogadishu's Dharkenley district, while a car bomb outside Ambassador on Makka Al-Mukarama road has left at least three civilians dead.
