MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali government forces have shot and killed a soldier in Mogadishu on Sunday in the latest in a series of elaborate assassinations in the seaside capital city, Garowe Online reports.

An eyewitness confirmed to GO that the soldiers gunned down the Service Member near the busy Sana junction in Yaqshid district following an argument early in the morning and fled the scene immediately on foot unchallenged.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Somali security forces who arrived in the crime area launched an investigation into the incident and carried out a search operation in the area looking for the soldiers who are on the run.

What triggered the clash between the troops is still unclear, however, residents say Sunday's killing was part of sporadic infighting between troops withing Somali armed forces in the capital.

The Somali Federal Government officials were not immediately available for comment on the incident.

Mogadishu is facing threat from Al-Shabaab group that has staged a series of high profile raids, including car bombings on army and AU troops as well as the hotels.
