MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Federal Government of Somalia said Saturday it welcomes Saudi Arabia's ongoing investigation into the case of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Garowe Online reports.

Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the solid steps taken by the Kingdom's Public prosecution and the arrest of the suspects in the killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last month.

"Somali Government welcomes the investigation announced by the Public Prosecution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which took place with the detainees in the case of the killing of Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi," said the Ministry in a statement.

It added that Somalia considers the investigation as a step in the right direction to clarify the full truth about the circumstances of the murder case of the Washington Post columnist.

Somalia joins other Arab countries expressing solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its rejection of any attempts to politicize or internationalize the case.
