Somalia: Intelligence official shot dead outside mosque in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Al Shabaab assassins have shot and killed a senior Somali Intelligence official serving with National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in Mogadishu on Friday night, Garowe Online reports.

The officer who was identified as Mohamed Omar was killed when after leaving mosque en-route to his residence in Waberi district. Reports said that two men armed with pistols have shot dead the official, according to witness.

The killers have managed to escape from the scene immediately before the arrival of Somali security forces who later carried out investigation to find out culprits behind the killing.

Al Shabaab group has claimed responsibility of the murder, as they intensified attacks against security forces, government officials and civilian targets in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

The East African country's capital has been beset with insecurity and terrorist attacks from Al Qaida-affiliated Al Shabaab militants who threatened to continue the fight against the new Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
