Somalia President fires Chief Justice

MOGADISHU, Somalia-Federal Government of Somalia’s (FGS) President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has fired the head of the country’s Supreme Court Aidid Abdullahi Ilkahanaf by a decree on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.
Ilkahanaf—Somalia Chief Justice since 2011—had previously clashed with Mohamud on the independence of Judiciary.
The Presidential decree reportedly cited that High Court Chief Judge was sacked for age-related health complications.
Ilkahanaf could not be reached for comments. Ibrahim Iidle Suleiman—formerly a top State Prosecutor of Somaliland—who vacated the post a few weeks ago has been appointed as his successor.
Former transitional Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed picked Ilkahanaf for the post. With Mohamud seeking re-election, Somalia prepares for critical polls seen as a midway point before the country transitions into democratic governance by 2020 later this year.
