Somalia: Security forces seize bombs in the capital Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- The joint security forces in the capital Mogadishu were reported to have seized bombs during a security sweep in Waberi district on Saturday morning, Garowe Online reports.

Security officials said a bag filled with explosive materials was seized in 21st October neighborhood in Waberi district intended to be used in attacks against civilians and government officials in the capital.

Residents were evacuated from nearby houses as security officials called for mine experts to dismantle the bombs before it explode.

The head of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Abdulahi Sanboloshi announced that forces are ready to deter possible al-Shabaab attacks and foiled couple of attempts by the militants during the holy month of Ramadan.

GO reporter in Mogadishu said that joint forces comprised of Police, Army and NISA were deployed in the main roads and placed security checkpoints, particularly in entrance controls of Mogadishu city.

The joint forces are also conducting major disarmament campaign in districts which is part of “Mogadishu Stabilization Mission” aimed to enforce security. 

Since the beginning of the joint security mission, the city has witnessed decline in al-Shabaab attacks by its militants who are known to increase attacks in the holy month of Ramadan.
