MOGADISHU, Somalia - The Upper House of Somalia's Federal Parliament has unanimously approved a vital legislation to establish a National Disability Agency on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

The entire 31 Senators who were present during the vote have supported the bill to proceed through a show of hands, according to the House speaker, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi.

Somalia's Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, Deqa Yasin thanked the Senate for moving quickly to endorse of National Disability Authority Act.

Yasin said the National Disability Agency law now awaits President Farmajo’s assent after it sailed through both the National Assembly and Senate.

In a statement released from the office of the president, Farmajo has welcomed the move and praised the Senators for speeding up the approval process.

A large part of the disabled citizens in the country say they have not been consulted in regard to the formation of the disability agency and called for fair adjustment.
