Somalia troops kill Al-Shabaab militants during intensified operation

WAJID, Somalia - Somali National Army’s 60th Division on Wednesday killed four al-Shabab militants and injured several others after a fierce gun battle near the strategic town of Wajid in Bakool region, southwest Somalia.

Mohamed Moallim Yusuf, Wajid District Commissioner, said that Somalia National Army (SNA) carried out the operation after learning that al-Shabab militants were punishing owners of seven donkey carts that were delivering food.

He said the operation was aimed at rescuing owners of donkey carts as well as the food that was being ferried to local residents.

“Somali National Army forces killed 4 Al-Shabab militants and injured others during an operation at a location near Wajid district in Bakool region this morning.”

“The operation was aimed at rescuing 7 men with donkey carts transporting food and other products to the town,” Yusuf said.

He added that the militants tried to resist the forces, but were overwhelmed, adding that two SNA soldiers sustained minor injuries during the operation.
