Somalia: UN envoy reaches Beledweyne town

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia- A delegate led by the Special Representative of the UN for Somalia, Michael Keating, has arrived Beledweyne town, the administrative headquarter of Hiiraan region on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

Michael Keating was cordially welcomed by high-ranking regional administration officials and national-flag waving residents who turned out in large numbers to receive the UN envoy's delegation.

The UN envoy to Somalia, Keating left Mogadishu, on Thursday morning for the central Somali town of Beledweyne to meet with clans elder, local community leaders and AMISOM commanders.

Sources told GO that SRSG's trip was part of the ongoing efforts to foster dialogue and reconciliation between the newly established Hirshabelle administration and Hiiran clans elder Ugasa Hassan Ugaas Khalif.

On Wednesday, a high-level delegation led by Hirshabelle state President Ali Abdulahi Osoble has arrived in Baladwayne town for talks with local clan elders.

The deadlock between Hirshabelle state leader and Hiiran clans elder is reported it affected President Osoble's administration from effectively appointing new cabinet ministers amid recurring period extension by Hirshabelle Parliament to form the council ministers.
