Somalia: Upper House election to commence in Hirshabelle state

JOWHAR, Somalia- The ballot for Upper House candidates is scheduled to start in Jowhar town, the interim regional capital of the newly established Hirshabelle state, following the announcement of 21 contenders by the President, Garowe Online reports.

State parliamentarians are set to vote for the candidates representing Hirshabelle state in the upcoming Upper House chamber of Federal Parliament.

President Ali Abdualhi Osoble has announced the list on Friday, among them 4 women candidates contesting for the 8 seats quota for Hirshabelle state.

This comes amid the conclusion of Upper House elections in regional states Puntland, Jubaland, Southwest and Galmudug state, and are preparing to hold Lower House elections in the coming period.

Somali is preparing to hold parliamentary and presidential elections that are expected to be wrapped up in November 30, amidst concerns from public and International community of possible delays to the electoral process.
