Somalia: Muse Bihi elected as the 5th President of Somaliland

HARGEISA, Somaliland - Muse Bihi Abdi of the ruling Kulmiye party has been elected as the 5th President of Somaliland after winning Nov 13 Presidential poll, Garowe Online reports.

Somaliland National Electoral Commision [NEC] announced Tuesday that Bihi is the winner of the hotly contested election after securing majority votes of 55%, beating his candidates Abdirahman Irro and Feysal Ali Warabe.

Abdirahman Irro garnered 40.7% of votes while UCID candidate received 4.7% of votes. More than 700,000 of voters cast their votes during the election that took place in six regions in Somaliland.

Abdi, 69, former Somali Air Force pilot will lead Somalia's northern self-declared Somaliland in the next five years, replacing Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Siilaanyo who has been in power since 2010.
