​Somali, AU troops repel Al Shabaab attacks in Southern Somalia

ELBUR, Somalia- Somali and African Union peacekeeping forces (AMISOM) have repulsed two separate attacks by the Al Qaida-inspired militant group Al Shabaab in south and central Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

The minister of disbarment of the Interim Southwest administration Hassan Hussein Mohamed confirmed that two soldiers killed after an ambush assault on a convoy transporting relief supplies near Baidoa town.

"Southwest state forces came under ambush they were escorting aid convoy heading to Bulo-Barako village, and lost two brave solders in the counter-attack," said Mohamed while speaking to media over the phone.

Southwest minister added that Al Shabaab fighters were successfully repelled by the regional troops who were protecting the convoy ferrying food aid to thousands of families living in Bulo-Barako. He also sent his condolences to the victims' families.

in a separate incident, Al Shabaab fighters have attacked a military convoy carrying Ethiopian troops serving with the AMISOM forces in Galgaduud region of central Somalia on Tuesday.

The Ethiopian army convoy was attacked as it left the region's capital, Dhusamareb town, and en route to Elbur district, however, there was no immediate confirmation on the casualties of the attack.

AMISOM has not yet commented on the attack.

The militant group Al Shabaab has intensified attacks in the past weeks, targeting security officials and allied forces in the Somali capital of Mogadishu and other parts of the country, in a bid to topple the new government led by President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmajo.
