Germany assures Ruto to help Kenya’s SMEs access the EU market

NAIROBI, Kenya - Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz has assured Kenyan president William Ruto that Germany will help Kenyan small enterprises access the European markets. “Better access to Europe will help Kenyan firms to produce and sell more.

This will accelerate employment creation and support more lives,” Olaf Scholz said. He was addressing the media on Tuesday at his office in Bundeskanzleramt in Berlin after talks with the Kenyan head of state who is on a two-day state visit in Germany. Mr Scholz noted that Kenya continues to make indispensable contributions to peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

“We will support Kenya more on this cause as well as in its push to tackle the climate change crisis,” he added.

President Ruto appreciated Germany’s support in capacity building to facilitate Kenya’s products into the European markets. He further invited more German companies to invest in the value addition of raw materials in Kenya.

“We value the role that Germany has played in enabling Kenya to work towards realizing its development agenda,” the President observed.

Dr. Ruto explained that Kenya is ready to supply skilled and quality labour under an acceptable framework to Europe. “Kenya has one of the world’s finest human capital, we will leverage on the diverse, rich, and skilled resources to further the interests of the country.” the president adds.

He made the remarks on Tuesday in Berlin when he met Kenyans living in Germany, where he revealed that negotiations are underway with countries such as Germany to eliminate red tape so that the skills can be exported and put to full use.

“We are also reviewing the Diaspora Policy so that we can take advantage of the opportunities that exist out there.” He asked Kenyan institutions to continue to maintain and produce quality professionals of all cadres and stripes.
