​Somalia: Gunmen kill security official in Galkayo city

GALKAYO, Puntland- A senior presidential guard of Puntland President Abdiwali Mohamed Ali “Gaas” was reported killed by assailants on Friday night in Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug region, Garowe Online reports.

Reports said that unidentified gunmen have shot dead late Ahmed Hasan Abdirahman “Gaandi” inside the city and fled the scene before the arrival of the Police authorities, who launched an investigation and a manhunt mission to capture the suspects, according to sources.

However, the reason behind the killing of Gaandi is unclear, as no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack against the official.

The incident is the latest in series of assassinations against government officials of Somalia's semi-autonomous region of Puntland.

End last year, gunmen has waged several terrorist attacks against government officials in Bosaso city and assassinated top officials among them, third deputy commander of Police Forces and the Prosecutor of Puntland Military courts.   

Recently, the security situation in Mudug was improving but the re-surge of terrorist attacks pose serious threat to the security of the region that is witnessed intense fighting between warring neighboring administrations and presence of militants in the region.
