GAROWE, Somalia, November 19, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Media workers in Somalia’s Northeastern State of Puntland have showed up in support of prominent TV journalist on Thursday, Garowe Online reports.

Having infuriated by the arrest of famed host of ‘Deperani show’, Jama Yusuf Jama, Puntland Media Fraternity mounts pressure on government to bow to calls for greater media independence.

Faisal Khalif Barre, Media Association of Puntland (MAP) chairman asked the international bodies and the government to react to the flagrant acts exercised in violation of basic human values.

“Today, the situation is dastard that no one can display his ideas and views without fear,” Barre told a group of journalists, shortly after police forces informed Jama of his arrest.

Over a week ago, the government imposed ban on ‘Deperani show’ and banned the TV journalist from journalism exercises.

His arrest is believed to have been prompted by an interview with Somalia Federal Government Interior Minister on Wednesday.
