Somalia: Puntland President, EU envoy discuss vision 2016

GAROWE, Somalia, June 8, 2015(Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Dr.Abdiweli Mohamed Ali and EU envoy Ambassador Michele Cervone d’Urso have discussed the country’s frame work for action ahead of 2016 elections on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

Speaking at a joint press conference with d’Urso, President Ali said that their meeting focused on 2016 polls, federalization process and ongoing EU development programmes in Puntland:”We have discussed a lot of issues including relations between Puntland and EU, ongoing development programmes by EU and upcoming Somalia elections”.

He expressed hope about the speeding up of EU-sponsored development projects amid huge European Union assistance in education and infrastructure development sectors.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Cervone commended Puntland for the progress being made in the fight against Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab militants in Galgala.

EU funded the rehabilitation of Garowe-Galkayo paved highway and supports environmental protection initiatives.
