​Somalia: Second annual Arts Fair kicked off in Puntland

GAROWE, Puntland- Somalia’s northeastern region of Puntland hosted for the second time, the annual Arts Fair event in the capital Garowe on Saturday, presenting diverse artworks of talented photographers and artists, Garowe Online reports.

The colorful event showcased a broad scope of art disciplines including painting, photography and works on paper that brought cultural heritage and geographic beauty of the country, attracting government officials, media representatives, art professionals and members of the civil society.

The organizer of the event, Balqiza Abdirizak Abshir, expressed her pleasure and gratitude for the support of the show, which aimed to launch a platform for native artists to demonstrate talents to the fans.  

Puntland Deputy Minister of Education, Mohamed Ali Farah, praised organizers and encouraged similar events that advocate art education in the state.   

Founder of Garoweonline -sister publication of Radio Garowe- Mohamed Abdirahman Farole, who co-sponsored the Art Fair, has hailed the success of the show and ensured continuous support for such fairs in Puntland state.

Puntland Women Development and Family Affairs Minister, Anisa Abdulkadir Haji Mumin, on her side participated in the exhibition as she presented photographs and later stressed the need to promote arts in the years ahead.

Last year, Puntland hosted the first Art Fair in Somalia, giving fresh hopes for youths having passion for artistic works and photography.
