4 suspects arrested linked to ISIS group in Somalia

Baydhabo, Somalia - Authorities in South West State had captured 4 suspects linked to ISIS group in Baydhabo, the capital region of SW state, Garowe online reports.

During the last week Somali security forces conducted an anti-terror operation in the city, arresting 4 people and seized pistols and hand grenades in their possession. 

After investigations security officials stated that the suspects are linked to ISIS group, whose leader Abdiqadir Mumin is the head of ISIS franchise in Somalia. Abdiqadir Mumin with other few fighters has switched allegiance from Al Shabab last October in Bari province in Puntland State.

The arrested militants stated during the investigation, that they are among 7 members responsible for carrying out terror attacks in Bay province. Officials stated that the suspects have businesses in the local market, which is a cover up to hide their illegal activities.

The suspects were identified as Ali Mahmaed Gaabow, the head of ISIS group in Bay province, Mahad Nuh Siidow, Abdiaziz Hasan Mursal and Mahamed Shaikh Isaaq. During an interview to SONNA, Gaabow revealed that he used to be a member of Al Shabab terror group before he switched to ISIS.

The operation has come after U.S. State Department on 31 August, announced that it has designated Abdiqadir Mumin the head of ISIS in Somalia in the Designated Global Terrorists list.
