MOGADISHU, Somalia - At least 15 people have been killed within the Gedo region in Jubaland, following inter-clan clashes which intensified for the second week in a row, necessitating calls for unity and dialogue from the country's regional and federal leadership.

Two rival clan militia have been fighting for the last few days, leaving several people severely injured on top of the deceased. Several people have also been displaced according to authorities in the Gedo region.

Ahmed Madobe, the regional leader of Jubaland, called for a cessation of hostilities in the Luuq District within Gedo. The regional leader asked the two clans to retreat and give dialogue a chance, noting that there was a need for mutual respect.

Madobe also instructed the leaders of the Gedo region, Luuq district elders, and various community sections to work towards an official resolution to the conflict to prevent further casualties. He asked locals to embrace peace.

According to him, soldiers guilty of inciting the community will be dismissed from service. The fighting, he said, would interfere with the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab militants.

The government of Somalia has activated the second phase of operations against Al-Shabaab within Jubaland and Southwest states. The exercise would see the Somali National Army pursue the militants in various strategic towns and villages.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for unity and tolerance across the country while insisting that the country should celebrate several achievements made in pursuit of peace and stability. Somalia has made a huge milestone in the restoration of peace within the last two years.
