El-Sisi stresses Egypt’s support for security and stability of Somalia
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt received Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, today on the sidelines of the “Alamein... Africa for Business” Forum, held in New Alamein City. President Sisi voiced Egypt’s support to strengthen the capabilities of the Somali state, consolidate security and stability, and help realize the aspirations of the Somali people.
Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi welcomed the Somali President, expressing appreciation for his participation in the forum and commending the notable development in Egyptian-Somali relations, particularly since the two countries elevated their ties to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership in January 2025.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, stressing Egypt’s commitment to continuing to provide various forms of support to Somali people. This support aims to strengthen the capabilities of the Somali state, consolidate security and stability, and help realize the aspirations of the brotherly Somali people.
Ambassador El-Shennawy added that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his appreciation for President El-Sisi’s commitment to continued consultation and coordination with Somalia. He underscored Somalia’s pride in the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries and valued the support Egypt provides to Somalia at the political, security, and developmental levels.
The Somali President also praised Egypt’s efforts, under President El-Sisi’s leadership, to preserve Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, support national state institutions, and back efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the country.
The spokesman noted that the meeting addressed the latest internal developments in Somalia. President El-Sisi emphasized the importance of fostering national consensus among the various Somali forces and components in order to preserve state unity and stability and help the country overcome security challenges. He reiterated Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and its national institutions, based on the fraternal ties and shared interests between the two countries.
The meeting also witnessed an exchange of views on regional developments of mutual interest. The two presidents stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation between Egypt, Somalia, and other regional states on issues related to the security and stability of the Horn of Africa, the Gulf of Aden, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Red Sea. Such coordination contributes to strengthening regional security and safeguarding the interests of the countries and peoples of the region.
