AFGOOYE, Somalia-Six civilians have been killed and three others kidnapped after clan militiamen raided a small village near Lower Shabelle region’s No. 50 late on Sunday night, Garowe Online reports.

The incident occurred in Bulo Hashi area, some 2km away from No. 50 according to local authorities and residents.

All those killed were unarmed locals, and the attackers fled the scene of crime shortly after the deadly raid.

Residents say, the people might have been targeted in revenge for bloody animosity between two fraternal clans in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.

“The night raid took place in Bulo Hashi area… six people have been killed and the assailants fled.

The incident relates to previous killings that began in Marka [Lower Shabelle regional capital], and ever since it had spread throughout the region,” said a source under customary condition of anonymity.

The whereabouts of captives are unknown.

Somalia’s Federal Government (SFG) has yet to speak on the renewed clan revenge attacks and kidnappings.

Two clans have for long vied in military infighting for regional influence amidst plans to forge strong and credible national army from former clan militias.
