Somali military commander killed by his guard

Moqdishu, Somalia - Senior Somali military commander was killed by his security guard in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Friday, Garowe online reports.

Wideness confirmed to GO that the deceased military commander is Col. Geesey Ali and was gunned down by his own security guard in Darkenley district of Banadir region. The assassin was subsequently apprehended at the crime scene by the Somali government forces and jailed in a prison located in Darkenley district.

Somali army officials didn’t comment about the incident but said investigating is undergoing to find out the reasons behind the killing of the senior military commander.  

The incident comes after a series of intensified attacks lately in the capital Mogadishu, as Al Shabab militants group has staged series of attacks this week against Somali government buildings, AMISOM troops and Somali government troops.

Analysts told GO that despite security measures in the capital Mogadishu was beefed up lately, Al Shabab group managed to carry out numerous attacks, suggesting that the militants group might have infiltrated the Somali security forces.
