MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday chaired the Council of Ministers’ weekly meeting in Mogadishu, focusing on accelerating state-building and improving public services.

Mohamud called for greater cooperation, transparency, and accountability across all government sectors, according to a statement from the presidency.

Ministers reported progress in security, economic reform, and governance. Officials said Somali forces had dealt significant blows to the al-Shabab insurgency over the past six months while expanding army training and equipment.

The Council also reviewed the draft 2026 national budget, noting that increased spending would prioritize health, education, and key social services.

Mohamud urged ministers to actively support Somalia’s democratization efforts, saying public trust and national unity depend on inclusive and accountable governance.
