Somali Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf Gaagaab Dies in Istanbul, Turkey

ISTANBUL - Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf Gaagaab, a prominent figure in Somali politics, has passed away in Istanbul, Turkey, the Somali Upper House announced on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Speaker of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia Abdi Hashi, together with his deputies and fellow senators, extended their deepest condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the deceased.

"Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf Gaagaab served the Somali people for a long time, playing a key role in building the Somali state. He was an intellectual and a patriot who held various positions in the country," the statement read, highlighting his contributions.

Gaagaab had a notable political career, having served as Vice President of Puntland 2004-2005 and also as the region's Minister of Finance, leaving behind a significant legacy in the governance and development of Somalia.

The senator's family confirmed that funeral arrangements are being made for him to be buried in Somalia. Further details about the funeral services were not immediately available.
