​Somalia: A Senator narrowly escapes death in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia- Somalia senator Osman Mohamud Dufle has escaped death narrowly on Wednesday morning after bomb attack on his convoy in Mogadishu, Garowe Online reports.

The attack happened after the senator's vehicle came under landmine blast outside his clinic center in Taleh neighborhood in Hodan district in the capital Mogadishu

Witnesses said the perpetrators escaped from the scene after the attack.

"I have survived today a terror attack aimed to assassinate me. The bomb went off shortly after my convoy passed over it. There was no any casualties," he added.

Prof Dufle who is a well-known doctor and member of the Upper House chamber of the Federal Parliament is safe following the failed assassination attempt.   

Somali Security officials have launched a crackdown on suspected militants, sealing off the area of the attack and arresting several suspects, according to the witnesses.

Al Shabaab has stepped up assassinations, and attacks, including car bombs at main government installations and high-profile hotels in Mogadishu, to disrupt the upcoming presidential election next week.

The members of the Parliament and presidential candidates have voiced concern over the insecurity in Mogadishu, and appealed for protection.
