Somalia: Beledweyne to host state formation convention next week

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia, August 3, 2015 (Garowe Online)-As Somalia’s loose federalization process spawned territorial disputes, Hiran regional capital of Beledweyne is gearing up for state formation convention next week, Garowe Online reports.

Hiran Governor, Abdifatah Hassan Afrah announced that delegates will begin arriving in very soon.

Afrah has also called on Beledweyne natives to accord warm welcome to participants: “Hiran and Middle Shabelle state formation convention will kick off in Beledweyne next week, as you know, federalization is ongoing and I urge people of Beledweyne to welcome the guests”.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed is expected to come to Beledweyne for the endeavor, Afrah was quoted as saying on Monday.

Mogadishu-based federal government has set up Galmudug as part of the country’s framework for action ahead of 2016 elections.

Last week, both federal parliament and council of ministers agreed that no popular elections will be held in August.
