Somalia: Candidates deliver campaign speeches at Parliament

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Twelve candidates vying for the post of second Deputy Speaker of the Federal Parliament are set to deliver campaign speeches at the House of the People in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

Each of the 12 candidates contesting for the seat of second Deputy Speaker of Somali Lower House were given 15 minutes to address the Parliament on their political agenda and background ahead of the polls this week.

Among the candidates are Mahad Abdalla Awad, the former second Deputy Speaker of the 9th Federal Parliament, Abdualahi Godah Bare, former Interior Minister and Abdiwali Mohamed Qanyare, the son of a former warlord Mohamed Qanyare.

However, candidates running for the Parliament Speaker and first Deputy Speaker have presented their speeches to the members of Parliament on Sunday.

The newly inaugurated Lower House chamber of Federal Parliament is set to vote for the Speaker and his two deputies on January 11 and 12 respectively, and then will follow with the preparation for the elections of Upper House chamber leadership and new Somali President that are not scheduled yet.
