Somalia gets new Deputy UN representative

MOGADISHU, Somalia - The United Nations has dispatched a new Deputy Special Representative, who will be joining at the time the country is struggling with instability, with the war against terrorism also in the defining moment according to reports.

Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, dispatched Raisedon Zenenga as the new Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), a critical component in state-building.

Mr. Zenenga, hailing from Zimbabwe, succeeds Anita Kiki Gbeho of Ghana, and the Secretary-General expresses gratitude for her dedicated service in Somalia. Before coming to Somalia, he has been serving in the same role in Libya.

“Mr. Zenenga brings extensive experience in supporting political processes and mediation, managing complex peace operations, and working with Government and other key stakeholders in conflict and post-conflict settings,” Mr. Guterres said.

The new Deputy Special Representative boasts over 30 years of experience in the United Nations, having served in missions in Liberia, Libya, Iraq-Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and South Sudan, as well as at the United Nations Headquarters.

According to records, Zenenga is a graduate of the University of Zimbabwe and mastered public administration and political science. The UN has invested in Somalia's stability and has managed to secure certain strategic areas from the Al-Shabaab through peacekeeping troops.

The United Nations just like the US, European Union, and the United Kingdom, supports the country in the realization of peace and stability and has been paying wages to peacekeepers. The US Africa Command and African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops are in charge of security within the country.
