Somalia: Hirshabelle President orders to form Islamic court in the region

BALADWEYEN, Somalia- The President of the newest established semi-autonomous region of Hirshabelle, has issued decree to form Islamic courts in Baladweyen town in Hiran region, Garowe Online reports.

According to the statement released from the President office, an Islamic court and court of appeal will be both established in Baladweyen town.

Hirshabelle President Ali Abdulahi Osoble stated the Islamic courts will be formed to install fair judicial system and resolve long outstanding disputes among clans in the region.

According to the decree, President’s decision came following recommendation from the Justice officials and request from the local communities and clans to form courts that take on Islamic rulings.

The President appointed Shaikh Ibrahim Hasan Ali as the chief Judge of the court of appeals in Hiran region and appointed two judges and senior assistance. Osoble also appointed Shaikh Roobe Yusuf Nur as the chief Judge of the Islamic court in Beledweyen town.

The move comes as the region has existent civil and military courts that carries out hearing for cases filed before the courts.
