Somalia: Jubaland leader appoints rivals to posts

KISMAYO, Somalia, August 11, 2015 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s Jubaland administration Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) has named two rival commanders to key posts following Gedo deal, Garowe Online reports.

Col. Abas Ibrahim Gurey (Abas Dhere) was appointed Gedo security forces commander while Abdullahi Osman, his closest ally became his deputy.

In June, 2013 Kenyan-AMISOM forces detained Col. Gurey along with his colleagues in Jilib for allegedly stirring insecurity.

On Friday, Madobe struck agreement with rival Gedo politicians in the Border town of Doolow.

The nominations come, with a week left to Jubaland Presidential election that is due to be held on August 15 according to eight-member parliamentary committee.
