MOGADISHU, Somalia-Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has conducted a security sweep that has netted 300 suspects in volatile Mogadishu overnight on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

The operations targeted neighboring Yaqshid and Huriwaa districts, with 26 of those captured said to be Al Shabaab members.

Intelligence Boss Abdirahman Tuuryare and Banadir Governor Yusuf Hussein Jimale toured security sweep spots in the two districts.

“The operation was planned, and the suspects were screened [for terrorism]. 26 of those suspected have been proved as Al Shabaab members and they have admitted to,” Banadir regional administration spokesman Abdifatah Omar Halane told the media.

The operation marks the first of its kind to be conducted in Mogadishu in recent months.
