Somalia: MP dies at Mogadishu hospital after illness

MOGADISHU, Somalia - A Member of Somalia's current Federal Parliament has passed away at a hospital in the capital, Mogadishu on Saturday night after a short illness, Garowe Online reports.

Khalif Sheikh Abdullahi, known as "Durey" of Southwest State constituency in Somalia died at around 9:30 pm [local time] at the Medina Hospital. He was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Somali prime minister, Hassan Ali Khaire has condoled the death of the MP and sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and friends over the untimely tragic loss.

"May Allah rest his soul in eternal peace," said Somali PM in a twitter post.

The body of the late legislator is expected to be laid to rest in a state funeral on Sunday.

The death of the parliamentarian comes as the country's Lower House of Parliament is scheduled to elect a new leadership after the resignation of the former speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari on 9th April.
