Somalia: New faces in cabinet lineup

MOGADISHU, Somalia Jan 12, 2015 (Garowe Online)-New faces have appeared in a cabinet lineup revealed by Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

59 members managed to get portfolios in Sharmarke’s cabinet, with former cabinet ministers making comeback.

Justice Minister and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s closest ally Farah Sheikh Abdikadir was re-assigned to his post while constitutional affairs ministry went to former Puntland Minister Abdikadir Abdi Hashi (Gabane).

Finance, Defence , Petroleum, Information, Public Work and Women Ministers retained their posts.

Heavyweight politicians who held key posts in former Puntland administration of Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Farole turned up.

Prime Minister Sharmarke named Gen. Abdullahi Ahmed Jama (Ilka Jiir) as Education Minister, Outgoing Chamber of Commerce Chairman Saed Hussein Eid as Health Minister, Abdulkadir Abdi Hashi as Constitutional Affairs Minister, Daud Mohamed Omar as Minister of Petroleum and Mines and Mohamud Hayir Ibrahim as State Minister for Presidency.

The cabinet lineup consists of 25 Ministers, 25 Deputy Ministers and 9 state Ministers.

The newly appointed Prime Minister and career diplomat Sharmarke said he held consultations with President Mohamud and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Shiekh Osman Jawari.
