​Somalia: Suicide car bombing targets AMISOM base

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia - A huge explosion was reported at a military army base belonging to the Djiboutian forces serving with the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Beledweyne, Garowe Online reports.

A local resident told GO that the blast occurred when an explosives-laden truck rammed into the gate of the AU forces base situated at west of Beledweyne town in Hiiran region on Tuesday. 

Following the explosion reports said heavily armed militants have stormed the base and were fighting against AU soldiers inside the base but casualties is still unknown.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks but Al Shabaab militant group has carried out similar raids against AMISOM bases in Southern Somalia. 

Somali government and AMISOM officials has yet to release statement regarding the attack.
