The U.S. Mission to Somalia Strongly Condemns Assassination of Somali Journalist

The U.S. Mission to Somalia strongly condemns the June 5 assassination of Somali National Television and Radio Mogadishu journalist Sagal Salad Osman in Mogadishu.

The United States extends sincere condolences to Ms. Osman’s family, friends, and colleagues and salutes the courage of Somali journalists, who, day in and day out, struggle to defend the inalienable right of freedom of expression on behalf of the Somali people.

The United States urges the Federal Government of Somalia to bring the perpetrators to justice and redouble its efforts to end the culture of impunity and violence that threatens both the lives of Somalis and their universally recognized right to freedom of expression.'
