Two clans clash in deadly battle in central Somalia, 10 dead

BELEDWEYNE, Somalia, March 21, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Two clans have again clashed in deadly battle in the village of Deefow of central Somalia according to witnesses, Garowe Online reports.

At least 10 people have been reported killed while over a dozen sustained bullet wounds in fierce battle that flared up in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Militias in Hiran regional capital of Beledweyne have begun reinforcing their tribesmen in Deefow after offensive by a clan militia saw another removed from the agriculture-rich village.

Meanwhile, gunmen have killed two male nomads in vicinity near Deefow in the aftermath of fighting peak.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who visited Beledweyne alongside Djibouti’s Guelleh last month called on warring militias to desist from armed tensions and reach consensus on the standing differences.

Several efforts to defuse the conflict backfired, and sporadic confrontations continue to rage as of now.
