Biden Calls for Calm in Wake of Trump’s Election Victory
Washington, USA – U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Americans to “bring down the temperature,” speaking for the first time after Donald Trump’s sweeping victory in the recent presidential election, a win that positions Trump to return to the White House.
Addressing the nation from the White House Rose Garden, Biden acknowledged the contrasting emotions that follow any election, with some celebrating victory and others feeling defeat. “I have said many times, you can’t love your country only when you win, and you can’t love your neighbor only when you agree,” Biden remarked, calling for unity and peaceful coexistence among Americans.
Biden confirmed he had spoken with Trump and emphasized the importance of a smooth and peaceful transition of power. “The people voted and chose their leaders, peacefully,” he stated, affirming this as a hallmark of American democracy. “The will of the people takes precedence over any individual’s ambitions,” he added.
Biden underscored his trust in the integrity of the U.S. electoral system, describing it as fair, transparent, and reliable. “Elections can be trusted—win or lose,” he said, encouraging the public to respect the outcome and maintain confidence in democratic processes.
Vice President Kamala Harris, too, reached out to Trump to congratulate him after acknowledging the election results. Speaking to supporters in Washington, DC, she expressed pride in her campaign but emphasized the need to accept the election’s outcome.
Former President Donald Trump secured the necessary Electoral College votes, surpassing the 270 threshold, with wins in key battleground states, including North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Reports indicate that Trump is also leading in Arizona and Nevada, according to NBC News, an affiliate of Sky News in the U.S., suggesting he may secure all seven swing states.
At 78, President-elect Trump has kept a low profile since his declaration of victory in Florida, where he addressed supporters and celebrated his win.
