Christiane Amanpour to Leave CNN in 2027 After 43 Years
WASHINGTON - CNN’s chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour has announced she will leave the network next year after more than four decades covering major global events, conflicts and wars.
The 68-year-old journalist said in a statement on Monday that she had decided to depart after months of reflection.
“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” Amanpour said.
She said she looked forward to pursuing new projects while continuing to support CNN and its tradition of independent journalism.
“Remember: always be truthful, not neutral,” she added.
CNN chairman Mark Thompson praised Amanpour, describing her as “one of the most trusted and beloved journalists anywhere.”
He said the network would take time to celebrate her contributions before her departure next year.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 as an assistant on the international news desk and went on to become one of the network’s most prominent correspondents. Her reporting has frequently focused on international conflicts, wars and major political developments.
Over the course of her career, she has reported from conflict zones and interviewed influential political leaders and other prominent figures, establishing herself as one of the best-known journalists covering international affairs.
Since 2009, she has hosted her own nightly interview programme on CNN International, speaking with political leaders, diplomats and other figures about major global issues.
Her departure will mark the end of a 43-year association with CNN, where she became a leading voice in international journalism.
Amanpour’s announcement comes as the network prepares to recognise her long career and contributions before she leaves in 2027.
