AU Praises Ethiopia Election as Milestone for Democracy

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The head of the African Union Commission on Tuesday praised Ethiopia's recent general election, describing the vote as a powerful demonstration of the public's commitment to democratic principles.

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, chairperson of the AU Commission, expressed his appreciation to both the people and government of Ethiopia for the successful conduct of the country’s seventh general election.

Youssouf said the electoral process reflected a clear determination by Ethiopians to establish democracy as the foundation for the nation's social and economic development.

The National Election Board of Ethiopia also commended the professionalism and resolve demonstrated by electoral officials to ensure the successful completion of the national polls.

The chairperson reaffirmed the African Union's ongoing commitment to strengthening democratic governance across its member states by supporting credible, peaceful, and transparent electoral processes.
