NAIROBI, Kenya - Dr. William Ruto –Kenya’s president has jetted out of the country to join other Commonwealth heads of state and other dignitaries in the United Kingdom.

He is expected at the State Funeral for Queen Elizabeth.

The president is also expected to attend the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. He expected to meet President Joe Biden and officials from the American chamber of commerce.

The visits come barely a week after he was sworn into office as President. President Ruto will first attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II scheduled for Monday.

King Charles III who has taken over the throne after the death of Queen Elizabeth is expected to host a dinner for the Commonwealth heads of state.

The assembly will run for a week from September 20 up to September 26, 2022.

The UN General Assembly is the main policy-making organ of the organization. It has 193 member states, each with an equal vote.

It provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. While the president is away, his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua will steer the country’s operations.

The UNGA meetings in 202o and 2021 were held virtually. This year's theme is “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges" which is informed by the recognition that the world is in a critical state in the face of epidemics, the Ukraine war, and humanitarian challenges.

Ruto's tour comes at a time when he is expected to name his Cabinet.
