Kenyan TikToker raises $4,700 to feed drought victims in Northern Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya - Nasra Yusuf - a Kenyan comedian and Tik Toker has raised over $ 4,700 to feed Kenyans affected by drought in North Eastern parts of the country.

The comedian had earlier on visited the drought-affected regions and witnessed the struggle the residents were facing.

This prompted her to use her Tik Tok social media platform asking her followers to donate whatever they could to help the drought victims.

Within a week, Nasra managed to raise over $ 4,700, which she used to buy food items such as rice, beans, flour, and cooking oil. Which were distributed to hundreds of families in Wajir County, one of the worst-hit areas by the drought.

While distributing the relief food, the entertainer hit out at politicians from the North Eastern region accusing them of not helping residents through hunger.

The region is among the counties in the country that have been adversely affected by the persisting drought.

According to the latest report by the National Drought Management Authority, more than 2.6 million livestock deaths have been reported.

She tweeted that “So Northeastern leaders can do 50 Million plus fundraisers to build a MALL but can’t do the same to FEED their people?? ”

For the last four rainy seasons, the annual rains have failed across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia and forced over 1.5 million people to flee their homes in search of food and water elsewhere.

Yusuf’s initiative has been applauded by many Kenyans on social media, who praised her for her generosity and compassion.

They also called on the government to do more to assist the people of North Eastern Kenya, who have faced recurrent droughts and insecurity for decades.

Yusuf is a popular comedian in Kenya. She rose to fame after participating in the Churchill Show.
